A Journey of Miracles: Lunita’s Rise from Abandonment to Unrestricted Living

Some stories begin with hope. Others begin with heartbreak so deep that survival itself feels like a miracle.

For Lunita, that moment came on a quiet street in Salta, Argentina.

She was tied to a metal railing outside a grooming shop. Her family—the people she trusted for years—had walked away without looking back. Beside her lay a broken wheelchair, a small bag of diapers, and a handwritten note explaining they could no longer care for her.

Paralyzed from the waist down, Lunita lay on the cold pavement, unable to move, unable to follow, unable to understand why she had been left behind.

No food. No water. Just patience… and a fragile hope that someone would see her.

A Road to Recovery Filled with Pain

Local rescuers from “LUBA Salta” arrived just in time. They untied Lunita, lifted her gently, and promised she would never be invisible again.

But rescue didn’t mean instant happiness.

Although she eventually received a new wheelchair and caught the attention of a family in the United States, her first adoption turned into another painful chapter. The family wasn’t prepared for the demanding care a paralyzed dog requires.

When she was finally removed, Lunita was barely recognizable.

She weighed only 35 pounds. Her body was ravaged by staph infections and mange. Her skin burned from severe urine scalding, and most of the fur on her lower half had fallen out. Even the lightest touch made her cry out.

Still, she didn’t give up.

With a new foster mom who treated her wounds, gave her medical baths, and fed her a nourishing diet of fresh chicken and turkey, Lunita slowly began to heal—not just physically, but emotionally.

From Survivor to a Princess in a Tutu

As her skin healed and her fur grew back, Lunita’s real personality finally had room to shine.

She wasn’t fragile.
She wasn’t broken.
She was joyful, stubborn, playful—and full of life.

Wearing her iconic little purple tutu, Lunita quickly became a local favorite. She received a custom-built wheelchair from Eddie’s Wheels, designed perfectly for her body.

With her new wheels, she discovered freedom.

She raced across sidewalks.
She explored bridges.
She rolled through snow with wide, sparkling eyes.
She practiced her howls alongside her dog siblings.

For the first time, she wasn’t surviving.

She was living.

A Legacy That Will Never Fade

In June 2018, Lunita celebrated her 11th birthday—a moment that felt like a victory for every abandoned animal in the world.

She was surrounded by love, organic treats, warm hugs, and a family that finally understood her.

She was home.

Just one month later, Lunita became ill and passed away peacefully in the ICU.

Her time with her forever family was shorter than anyone wished—but it was filled with more love than many experience in a lifetime.

Her mom wrote:
“She changed my life forever. I loved her so much.”

And thousands of hearts broke… and healed… all at once.
