Inside a small property in Jardim Santo Antônio, the pair spent their days surrounded by dirt, garbage, and neglect.

They had no kennel to escape the blazing sun.

Everything shifted after authorities received a complaint about the animals’ condition.

On a Friday morning, civil police officers joined animal welfare officials to investigate the property.

The house was locked.

The owner was gone.

But the moment rescuers looked beyond the gate, they understood the seriousness of the situation.

Two emaciated dogs stood barely able to support themselves.

Their ribs and hips were clearly visible beneath thin skin, while the filthy yard around them showed obvious signs of prolonged neglect.
