Chained for 145 Days, Sunsimi Still Chose to Wait

Some dogs survive by running.
Some survive by refusing to let go.

Sunsimi survived the second way.

A Life Shrunk to the Length of a Chain

After a traffic accident, Sunsimi lost the use of his back legs.

Not long after, his elderly owner was hospitalized. With no one else able—or willing—to step in, Sunsimi was left behind.

He was chained in the same spot.
Not for a day.
Not for a week.

For 145 days.

Unable to stand, he dragged himself across the ground just to shift his body. Every movement was a struggle. Every inch was earned.

Around his neck, a thick iron chain stayed locked in place. Over time, it dug deeper into his skin, pressing and rubbing until it became a constant source of pain.

And yet… Sunsimi didn’t scream.
He didn’t fight.

He simply stayed there—quiet, watchful, waiting.

The Woman Who Refused the Easy Answer

Yoon Hee-soon was the person who finally saw him.

She worked as a caregiver for the elderly, and she understood what it meant to be helpless—what it looked like when someone had been forgotten.

When she asked about Sunsimi, she was met with the same response others had heard:

“There’s no real hope.”
“Euthanasia is probably best.”

But then Sunsimi looked up at her.

And in that moment, the truth was obvious.

He wasn’t ready to die.
He still wanted to live.

So Yoon Hee-soon chose the harder option.

She chose to try.

What the Hospital Found

At a specialized veterinary hospital, Sunsimi’s situation became even more complicated.

The scans confirmed what everyone suspected: a severe pelvic fracture. It explained why his back legs wouldn’t work.

But that wasn’t the worst discovery.

Further tests revealed something far more dangerous.

Sunsimi had advanced heartworm disease.

An ultrasound showed multiple worms inside his heart and pulmonary arteries—forcing his cardiovascular system to work under constant strain.

It wasn’t just serious.

It was life-threatening.

The Choice That Felt Impossible

To walk again, Sunsimi would eventually need pelvic surgery.

But there was a brutal problem:

Anesthesia could kill him.

With heartworm this severe, even putting him under could trigger sudden heart failure. Fixing his bones first might cost him his life before he ever got a chance to heal.

So the veterinary team made a decision that felt terrifying, but necessary.

Before anything else…
Sunsimi’s heart had to be stabilized.

That meant heartworm extraction surgery—delicate, dangerous, and high-risk—had to happen first.

Only after that would there be a chance to address his legs.

When Hope Comes With a Price

For Yoon Hee-soon, the choice was crushing.

She understood the risk.
She worried about the cost.
But more than anything, she feared losing him—after everything he had already survived.

Because Sunsimi didn’t just endure an accident.

He endured abandonment.
He endured pain.
He endured 145 days of waiting for someone who never came back.

And now that someone finally had… the thought of losing him felt unbearable.

Still, she stayed.

Where the Video Ends

The footage ends as Sunsimi is prepared for surgery.

The room is quiet.
The kind of quiet that holds fear and hope in the same breath.

There are no promises.
No guarantees.

Only determination.
Only trust.
Only one person refusing to walk away.

What Sunsimi Leaves Us With

Sunsimi’s story doesn’t end here.

It pauses—right on the edge between terror and hope.

His journey reminds us of something simple, but heavy:

Compassion isn’t measured by certainty.
It’s measured by willingness.

By choosing to protect life even when the outcome is unknown.

For 145 days, Sunsimi waited in silence.

Now, someone is finally fighting for him.

And sometimes…
that choice alone is the first step toward healing.
