Curled beneath overgrown bushes near a small rural village, the Hungarian Puli was almost impossible to recognize beneath the massive clumps of filthy, tangled fur covering his entire body. Thick ropes of matted hair dragged heavily against the ground, packed with dirt, mud, and years of neglect.

But what shocked rescuers most wasn’t just the condition of his coat.

It was what they discovered buried deep inside it.

Two groomers from Groom House in Novi Sad spotted the frightened dog and immediately realized they couldn’t leave him behind. Even from a distance, they could tell the situation was serious.

So they carefully brought him back to their salon, hoping they could give him a second chance.

At the time, they had no idea how heartbreaking the grooming process would become.

A Coat That Had Turned Into a Trap

As the groomers began shaving away the hardened layers of fur, they quickly realized this wasn’t the natural corded coat a healthy Puli should have.

This was extreme neglect.

The mats were so dense and heavy that they had become almost armor-like, trapping moisture, dirt, parasites, and debris directly against the dog’s skin. Every movement seemed uncomfortable.

Then the groomers noticed something horrifying.

Fleas and ticks were living throughout the coat.
