A Stray Dog Surviving in a Scrap Yard
For years, a stray dog named Jang-soon wandered through a construction site filled with scrap metal and debris. It was a harsh environment, and his appearance told the story of the difficult life he had endured.
His fur was patchy, his skin irritated, and small wounds covered parts of his body. But the most troubling injury was one of his back legs.
One hind leg looked severely damaged. It was swollen, bent unnaturally, and clearly deformed. Each step he took seemed slow and painful. Yet despite the injury, Jang-soon continued roaming the area, searching for food and a place to survive another day.
The Grandmother Who Quietly Cared for Him
Not everyone ignored the struggling dog.
An elderly woman who lived nearby had been watching over Jang-soon for nearly four years.
She gave him the name “Jang-soon,” because he reminded her of a beloved dog she once had who had already passed away. Even though the stray remained extremely cautious and refused to let anyone touch him, the grandmother never stopped trying to help.
Every day, she brought him food.
Sometimes she even prepared special meals just for him. On certain days, she grilled samgyeopsal—Korean pork belly—and carefully hid medicine inside the meat so the dog could receive treatment without realizing it.
Through these small acts of kindness, she tried her best to ease his suffering and help treat his skin problems.
Her patience and compassion quietly supported Jang-soon through the years.
Rescuers Finally Arrive
Eventually, Jang-soon’s situation reached the rescue team from Kritter Klub.
When they arrived at the location, they observed the dog carefully from a distance. Jang-soon was extremely fearful of humans, and approaching him directly would have been impossible.

To make sure he wouldn’t injure himself while trying to escape, the rescuers decided to gently capture him using a large net. This was the safest way to transport him to a veterinary hospital where doctors could examine his leg.
Before they took him away, there was an emotional moment.
The grandmother who had fed him for years stood nearby, watching quietly with tears in her eyes. She was relieved that Jang-soon would finally receive proper medical care, but at the same time, it was painful to see the dog she had cared for leave.
A Heartbreaking Diagnosis
At the veterinary clinic, the medical team immediately performed a full examination. X-rays were taken to understand what had happened to Jang-soon’s injured leg.
The results were devastating.
His leg bones had been severely broken for a long time, likely caused by an accident or serious trauma in the past. Because the injury had never been properly treated, infection had spread and some of the surrounding tissue had begun to deteriorate.
The veterinarians concluded that surgery was the only option.
During the operation, the doctors removed the badly damaged bone and cleaned the infected areas to stop the infection from spreading further.

A Fresh Start for Jang-soon
After surgery, Jang-soon began the long road to recovery.
Although he had lost part of his leg, something incredibly important had changed—he was no longer living in constant pain.
For the first time in years, the stray dog could finally rest, receive care, and begin healing properly.
Slowly, his attitude toward people also started to change. The dog who once avoided human contact began showing small signs of trust.
Jang-soon still had a journey ahead of him, but the hardest chapter of his life—the years of untreated suffering—was finally over.
His story reminds us that even animals who have endured years of hardship can still find comfort, healing, and hope when someone chooses to care. 🐾
