Some stories don’t just begin with heartbreak—they begin with a kind of betrayal that feels impossible to come back from.
For Lunita, that moment came on a sidewalk in Salta, Argentina.
She was left tied to a railing outside a grooming shop. Beside her sat a worn-out wheelchair, a bag of diapers, and a note. The people she trusted most had walked away, explaining they could no longer care for her. Paralyzed from the waist down, she lay there helpless, pressed against the cold ground, waiting… not knowing if anyone would come.
No food. No water. Just quiet endurance—and a fragile hope that someone would notice.

A Painful Climb Back to Life
When the rescue group LUBA Salta found her, it was only the beginning of a long and difficult road.
Lunita was given a new wheelchair and eventually caught the attention of a family in the United States. It seemed like her story was finally turning around—but that hope didn’t last.
Her new home wasn’t prepared for the level of care she needed.
When rescuers stepped back in, Lunita was in devastating condition. She weighed just 35 pounds. Severe infections had taken over her body. Mange had stripped her fur, and painful urine burns had left her skin raw and inflamed. Even the gentlest touch caused her to cry out.
But somehow, she didn’t give up.
With the help of a dedicated foster mom, Lunita began again. Medical baths soothed her wounds. Physical therapy slowly rebuilt her strength. A nourishing diet of fresh chicken and turkey helped her regain weight and energy.
Little by little, the broken dog started to heal.

From Survivor to Star
As her body recovered, something even more powerful emerged—her spirit.
Lunita wasn’t defined by her wheelchair. She was vibrant, joyful, and full of life in a way that inspired everyone around her.
Wearing her signature purple tutu, she became unforgettable. A custom wheelchair designed just for her gave her the freedom she had been denied for so long. And once she had it, she didn’t hold back.
She ran. Fast.
She explored bridges, played in the snow, and joined in howling sessions with her dog siblings. Every moment felt like a celebration—every movement a quiet victory.

A Life That Meant Everything
In June 2018, Lunita reached an incredible milestone—her 11th birthday.
For a dog once abandoned and left without hope, it was more than a celebration. It was proof of what love can rebuild.
Surrounded by people who truly cared for her, enjoying special treats and affection, Lunita finally had what every dog deserves: a real home.
Just one month later, she fell ill.
In the ICU, she passed peacefully—wrapped in the love that had once seemed out of reach.
Though her time with her true family was shorter than anyone wished, it was filled with a depth of love that many never experience.
Her mom later shared a simple truth that resonated with thousands:
“She changed my life forever. I loved her so much.”
